“At sixty-seven I can get up off the floor without a hand. My grandkids think I’m showing off.”

I found yoga at fifty-two, after a knee replacement.

Twelve years later I teach the class I needed then: slow, strong and kind to joints. Saturdays in the park, Tuesdays and Thursdays online.
The surgeon said to keep moving, but every class I tried was built for people half my age. So I learned slowly, wrote down what helped my knee, and started teaching a few friends on the grass at Kate Sessions Park. Now we are forty on a Saturday morning, the oldest is eighty-one, and nobody has to get down on the floor if they don't want to. Online, the classes are the same: unhurried, strong and kind.
